1949
William Farrington arrives in Houston, with little more than $40 in his pocket and his education in engineering. He soon becomes one of the growing city’s most successful developers.

1951
The Tanglewood Garden Club is organized by Birdie Farrington, wife of William, and other civic minded residents. The group helps transform the former agricultural landscape, including planting the iconic Live Oak trees along Tanglewood Boulevard.

1964
William Farrington completes construction of the original Post Oak Shopping Center. The trailblazing retail development accelerates the growth of Tanglewood and Uptown Houston.

1970
The iconic retail development theGalleria opens in the heart of Uptown Houston, further elevating the district to one of the nation’s most upscale retail destinations.

1982
Famed architect Cesar Pelli’s Four Leaf Towers introduce luxury high rise residential living to Uptown Houston.

1983
Philip Johnson’s Art Deco masterpiece, the Transco Tower, opens adjacent to theGalleria, the tallest suburban office building in the world at the time.

1989
Mary Catherine Farrington Miller publishes Tanglewood – The Story of William Giddings Farrington

1995
The first phase of Uptown Houston streetscape revisioning project introduces the iconic chrome arches and floating disks at key intersections along Post Oak Boulevard.

2004
Tanglewood Boulevard’s redevelopment and enhancement is completed, reestablishing itself as one of Houston’s great linear promenades.

2023
Groundbreaking for 1661 Tanglewood begins construction of what will be Houston’s largest and most luxurious high rise residential tower, on the site of the original Tanglewood Corporation office.
